Caring for the Home Living with preschoolers can be frantic, frustrating, and wouldn’t-miss-a-minute-of-it fantastic. Every second of the day (especially if yours has stopped napping) seems to be filled with energy and activity. Your child may be intensely interested in learning everything from entomology to astrophysics. How can we mere parents meet our preschoolers’ needs? One way is to step back and allow your child to meet his/her own needs. At school, your child is learning many skills in the Practical Life area that foster independence and self-reliance. |

In the Montessori Preschool, five distinct areas constitute the prepared environment: - Practical Life enhances the development of task organization and cognitive order through care of self, care of environment, exercise of grace and courtesy, and coordination of physical movement.
- Sensorial enables the child to order, classify, and describe sensory impressions in relation to length, width, temperature, mass, color, etc.
