Curriculum

The elementary curriculum includes traditional areas of study including Language, Math, Geometry, Geography, Social Studies/History, Biological/Physical Science, Physical Education, Art and Music.

Language includes experiences in oral language strategies; writing activities including development of mechanical skills, creative writing of prose and poetry, beginning research skills, and reading.  Grammar studies include Montessori’s function of words and the grammar boxes and an introduction to sentence analysis.

Math includes counting work, operations, and table memorization through lessons exploring the decimal system, the four fundamental operations with whole numbers, fractions, decimal fractions, table memorization, problem solving and activities in time, money and measurement.

Geometry includes nomenclature for geometric forms, lines, angles, polygons and introduction of the terms congruency, similarity, and equivalence.

Social Studies/History include lessons using globes, maps and mapping, geographical features, astronomy and cosmology including the formation of the universe, stars and solar system and the composition of the universe.  Lessons will also cover the structure of the Earth and the geologic history and timeline of the Earth including the Fundamental Needs of Humankind.

Biological Science lessons will include the Five Kingdoms of Life that lay the foundation for scientific exploration in zoology and botany.  The students will explore first animal/plant questions, simple stories, identification and nomenclature.

Physical Science studies will introduce and provide hands-on simple experiments in electricity, magnetism, and simple machines.

Physical Education will provide activities that allow the elementary child to develop positive feelings for vigorous physical activity while learning group games and different team sports.

Art lessons will be provided to help the elementary child develop positive feelings towards many forms of art.  Two-dimensional and three-dimensional activities will be introduced as well as explorations into art history and art appreciation.

Music activities will help students to learn the language and structure of music and the appreciation of various styles of music.
